The Rationale for Team-Based Treatment |
Clients with BPD often present with histories
of suicide attempts, repetitive self-injury, and
therapy relationships that end in frustration. Therapists
treating clients with these kinds of problems are
known to lose their balance easily, by turns being
too accepting of clients’ problem behaviors
and then being too demanding that clients change
immediately. The current competing theories and treatments
for BPD may differ from one another in dramatic ways;
however, they all agree that therapists treating
clients with BPD need support. So, while individuals
may start training in DBT as individuals, it is assumed
that anyone doing DBT can only do effective DBT in
the context of a team. |
